Happy New Year

It's been such a long time between posts.
Partly because, well, Life, you know.

And partly because of that slump. You know the one where I feel like my best brush work is done in the toilet with the dunny-brush? The one where I think all my time's been wasted and W.T.F. have I been doing all year when I have got nothing to show for it?????

It's the slump where I forgot I created, curated and over saw an art prize in the first part of 2015. The part where I forgot I worked for 6 months on a Gallery Trial with a local business. The part where somehow I forgot that just about every waking moment of 2015 was spent thinking about making art, even though I wasn't actually making a great deal of it.

And then, right now, the creativity wants to happen. And I want it to happen. Just so much. But.
School holidays are to my creative processes like a what a bullet is to the brain.
Plus it truely was 51 C in my studio the other morning. Hot. Hot Hot.

To top it off, I'm coming out of a fortnight of being the sickest I have ever been in my life. I mean, that bullet we were talking about, well there was a point it would have been a mercy.

Covered in the fugue of illness, of supressed/frustrated creativity, overwhelmed by slumpiness, I'm kicking my self into gear just enough to post the least thrilling and inspiring New Years post of all time.
Because there's this tiny little bubble of excitement that has suddenly made itself know, saying, "I can't wait . . . "

I can't wait to get back into it. I've got ideas pouring out of my head. There are techniques I want to try, media I want to explore. Concepts I want to chase down and nail and I want to do it now!!

I just can't wait to see what the amazing artists around me create this year. I can't wait to watch the continuation of some special journeys this year. I can't wait to get back into it. I'm working hard on making time. Some important things will be moving out of my life in the next few weeks, to make room for the big push forwards into my art.

The slump can go jump. Bring it on, 2016!
What have you got planned?

PS. I have been doing some drawing and painting. I did a feature wall for the local footy club (just please don't talk to me about grammar. I promise those are the words as I was instructed to write them.)

Happy New Year. :)

I acknowledge the Traditional Owners and First People of the land on which I stand, who are collectively known as the Southern Yamatji People. I pay my respects to the Elders past, present and future, for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and the hopes of the Southern Yamatji People.
I would also like to specifically acknowledge the Naaguja and Wilunya people from amongst the collective group of Southern Yamatji People and pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. The Naaguja and Wilunya Peoples are the Traditional Owners and First People of the place I have made my home and where I make my art.
